Lanco expands in Asia

Hong Kong, China - Lanco Integrated, a designer and manufacturer of high performance turnkey automated assembly and test systems for world markets, has moved to a new facility in Hong Kong, doubling the size of its original facility and expanding its technical team, according to Ed Karabec, company president and chief executive officer.

The move comes within days of Lanco’s announcement of its new global brand.

Lanco Integrated’s Asian operations have grown in both capacity and capability since the company established its Hong Kong facility in 2008. Continuous growth over the past seven years led the operation to a 15,000 square foot manufacturing facility in the Fo Tan industrial area.

Earlier this year, Lanco Asia developed an innovative business partnership with Cathay Pacific Catering Services Limited, successfully designing and manufacturing one of the world’s first highly automated food tray setting systems. The system is now in use at Cathay’s Chek Lap Kok plant.

Lanco Transport has also become the platform of choice for many automated electrical meter-testing systems in many regional state power grids, including Zhejiang, Guizhou, Inner Mongolia, Gansu and Xinjiang.

“Lanco Integrated in Asia has enjoyed steady and consistent growth over the years,” notes Karabec. “Our team there has demonstrated a commitment to quality and customer service that is delivering outstanding results.”

According to Brutus Lo, managing director of Lanco Integrated Asia, Hong Kong also has a robust legal framework that protects IP and encourages business growth.

“As a free port, we are able to conveniently import components from international suppliers who may or may not have support in Asia,” notes Lo.  “Leveraging the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA — an economic agreement between the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China), we are able to ship our proprietary Lanco Transport and custom turnkey systems to China at zero-duties, aiding both Chinese and multinational customers in their automation efforts.”

Lo added that InvestHK, an organization providing services to help overseas companies set up and expand in Hong Kong, has also been helpful with immigration and research and development funding processes.

Lanco Integrated, with a manufacturing history dating back to the founding of the Langendorf Watch Company and its Lanco brand in Switzerland in 1873, is a designer and manufacturer of high performance turnkey automated assembly and test systems for the automotive, medical, electronics, cosmetic, optical, telecommunications, and consumer goods markets. Headquartered in Westbrook, Maine, USA, Lanco Integrated also has full design, manufacturing, assembly, and sales facilities in Stuttgart, Germany, and Hong Kong and Shanghai, China.
